Legal information provider LexisNexis is offering Christchurch lawyers and law firms free access to its New Zealand online research services until 29 April, when the situation will be reassessed.
In a communication to the Christchurch legal profession, LexisNexis managing director Hugo Mahoney says this is one small way in which his company can help minimise the impact of the earthquake, and help lawyers return to practice law.
“We have all watched with horror as the earthquake has hit Christchurch and the surrounding areas again causing such devastation,” Mr Mahoney says. “You have our deepest sympathies and best wishes for a quick recovery, and we hope all your staff and families are safe and well.”
Christchurch lawyers are advised that to access the free legal research services they should contact LexisNexis Customer Services on 0800 800 986 and select “Option 1 (Research Solutions)” between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. A login ID and password will then be issued. LexisNexis says it understands that internet access will be limited in some locations, but hopefully lawyers will be able to take advantage of this support as connections return.
LexisNexis practice management clients are advised to contact the helpdesk on 0800 222 338 when ready, and assistance will be provided. (Source: Email from LexisNexis to New Zealand Law Society).
