The Ministry of Fisheries is asking anyone who has been affected by the Christchurch earthquake and has not yet been contacted about meeting their requirements under the Fisheries Act 1996, to contact FishServe on (04) 460 9555, Anna Cameron, Infringements and Support Services, (04) 819 4624 or Michelle Findlay, Foreign Charter Vessel Coordinator, (04) 819 4213 to discuss their situation.
Under the Fisheries Act 1996, commercial fishers and others engaged in the fishing industry are required to report to the Ministry of Fisheries on their fishing-related activities.
The ministry’s Acting Chief Executive, Andrew Coleman, says the ministry fully understands and supports the fact that those affected by the earthquake will be concentrating on the welfare of their friends, families and communities.
“While the Ministry has tried to identify everyone affected by the earthquake, and to stop correspondence to them, automated systems may result in correspondence being sent to affected people. In that case, please contact FishServe or one of the staff mentioned above,” he says.
