The New Zealand Law Society’s lawyers-only website, my.lawsociety, has received good levels of support in the three months since its launch.
The service went live in mid-May. Lawyers are able to access the information it contains by using their NZLS Registry ID code and password. This is provided to all lawyers who hold a current practising certificate.
NZLS IT Manager Malcolm Gunn says interest in the site has been encouraging.
“It is pleasing to see the way lawyers are adapting to the new interactive facilities which have emerged for the internet,” he says.
“my.lawsociety contains pages where all lawyers are able to post their comments and observations on matters of interest and law reform matters where NZLS is planning to prepare submissions.”
The website also contains special news and events sections for each of the NZLS branches, with information of local interest updated and added regularly.
“It’s also interesting to note that our Just Desserts blog is attracting a growing audience,” Mr Gunn says. “The latest post is entitled ‘Law as plain as the schnozz on your gizzo’ and this is probably a good indication of the rather irreverent attitude it takes. Needless to say, the blog is not necessarily the opinion of NZLS, but it has provided an excellent alternative view.”
my.lawsociety also contains information for lawyers on library services and the Practising Well section provides details of support services and the locum and National Friends Panel which the Law Society maintains.
