New Zealand Law Society President Jonathan Temm and former President John Marshall QC have been invited by the Fijian Solicitor-General to visit Fiji early in 2011.
The invitation was extended at a meeting in Wellington this week between Mr Temm and Fiji Solicitor-General Christopher Pryde. It replaces an earlier invitation to attend the Fiji Attorney-General’s conference in Nadi on 2-3 December which conflicted with prior commitments.
Mr Temm says he discussed a wide range of matters with Mr Pryde at their Wellington meeting. He and Mr Marshall would like to visit Fiji in late January/early February.
“We welcome the opportunity to meet members of the Fijian legal profession and to discuss their views on the current circumstances which prevail there,” he says.
“The New Zealand Law Society also welcomes the opportunity to discuss the possibilities for assisting the Fijian legal profession with its continuing legal education needs, and that will be one of the focal points of our visit.”
Mr Temm says another matter which will be addressed during the visit will be the possibilities for assisting the Fijian legal profession with arbitration in commercial disputes.
