The New Zealand Law Society has set up an 0800 number for use by lawyers who need assistance because of the impact of the Christchurch earthquake or who want to offer assistance. The number is 0800 529 000. It will be available during normal business hours.
From Monday 28 February the number will also be available for anyone who has an urgent legal problem related to Christchurch but is unable to contact their regular legal adviser. The Law Society will be able to advise on the operational status of lawyers or law firms and where necessary to put callers in touch with lawyers who have volunteered to provide preliminary legal advice on a free basis.
The Law Society has set up a special website to co-ordinate matters related to the legal profession and the provision of legal services. The site contains news and information relevant to lawyers, a lawyer contact and advice service, and assistance for lawyers and their families.
