Restrictions on access are being removed for some sections of the New Zealand Law Society’s special my.lawsociety website.
My.lawsociety was launched at the end of April 2010 with the objective of providing a range of interactive resources to assist New Zealand lawyers. Since its launch, my.lawsociety has shown an excellent increase in the number of lawyers visiting regularly. The range of information on the site has also been greatly expanded, with the launch of the In Practice section in November 2010 and other enhancements.
While access has been restricted to holders of a current practising certificate, it has now been decided to remove this for some of the news and information pages. The move has been driven by problems experienced by some practitioners who use several different computers in different locations.
There have also been requests for access from other people and groups involved in the delivery of legal services. These include law students, legal executives, government agencies, members of the judiciary and legal academics.
Anyone will now be able to view the my.lawsociety news sections and the information in InPractice. Access to any pages where individuals are identified or where comments and opinions can be expressed will remain restricted to members of the legal profession. This will require lawyers to log in with their NZLS Registry ID code and password.
The my.lawsociety home page has been redesigned to coincide with the changes in access, and several new section have also being added. This includes a section with information for new lawyers (open access).
