Photo identification card

The Law Society offers members the opportunity to purchase an optional photo identification card.

The Lawyer ID cards show that the holder has a current practising certificate issued by the Law Society. They are intended to assist with quick and reliable identification in situations where lawyers may need to prove their identity. These include courthouse security, prison security, other out-of-office client visits, and in carrying out Lawyer for the Child duties and other matters in the Family Courts.

A card costs $11.50 (including GST), payable to the Law Society.

While acceptance of the ID card is often subject to discretion, the Law Society has provided information on its purpose to agencies such as the Ministry of Justice and Department of Corrections.
