NZLS Law Library (Auckland)
| An enjoyable inaugural graduation was recently held at the NZLS Auckland branch offices for 40 Auckland graduates of the NZLS Legal Executive Course. Graduates were joined by a large gathering of friends, families, employers and Law Society staff for a social function followed by a welcome from NZLS Executive Director Christine Grice. |
The graduates were presented with their certificates by Chris Moore and Sarah Wright (NZILE Auckland Branch President) amid a lot of cheer and good humour. Special certificates were awarded to two candidates who had gained gaining top marks nationally in the 2008 Introduction to the Legal System and Property Law & Practice examinations. These were presented to Pip Glasson and Jessica Harriman respectively and they each received $150 prize from the Law Society. The NZILE awards an annual prize for the top Auckland graduate and Sarah Wright presented this to Heather Dempsey.
Over the past couple of months 182 graduates from the NZLS Legal Executive Course have been presented with certificates at NZLS branch functions around the country. Christchurch saw the largest number ever attending a centre city ceremony in June. Other functions were held in Tauranga, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Nelson, Dunedin and Whangarei, where the top New Zealand graduate, Katrina Berghan of Kerikeri, was awarded a prize from NZILE in recognition of her achievement.
The New Zealand Law Society wishes all graduates the very best in their legal careers.
Younger lawyers are invited to join a local Auckland governance group.
SpringBoard was established earlier this year to encourage the next generation of New Zealand directors and trustees and to promote age diversity around the board table. The 100+ members are 45 years and under and typically have previous governance experience.
Bi-monthly events allow members to build on their governance knowledge and to network with other younger directors and trustees. This year’s speakers have included Kevin McCaffrey and Peter Drummond, with future presenters to include David Irving as well as a panel event in conjunction with the Deloitte Fast 50.
More information on SpringBoard can be found at www.springboardnz.org.
The Auckland branch hosted a successful function for Auckland practitioners on 4 June, in conjunction with the NZLS Board meeting being held in Auckland the following day.
