CBD Cordon access plan under development

Civil Defence has advised that it is developing a plan to allow people to retrieve cars and property from buildings within the cordon.

No decision has yet been made on how this will happen. Further information on these processes will be released through the media as soon as decisions have been made. In the meantime people should stay away from the CBD cordon.

For commercial buildings and residences inside the CBD, people may be allowed limited and escorted access to retrieve essential property.

Access is likely to occur in stages starting with the least affected and safest areas.

NZLS has written to the Minister for Earthquake Recovery, Gerry Brownlee pointing to the pressure being placed on some practitioners to respond to client requests for access to wills, deeds and other documents. (Source: Ministry of Civil Defence website announcement).
