Chief Judge Colgan of the Employment Court has written to the convenor of the New Zealand Law Society’s Canterbury-Westland branch employment law committee to provide details of the steps the Court has taken. Chief Judge Colgan says as the Christchurch Registry is located physically in Wellington, the ability of the Court to receive and process cases and documents has been unaffected by the earthquake.
The Chief Judge says Christchurch matters will continue to be dealt with by a combination of telephone conference calls, written memoranda, video conferencing and other forms of communication that do not require face-to-face interchanges in a courtroom. Further details are provided in the letter.
