Postal services mainly to northern and western areas of Christchurch resumed on Tuesday 1 March. Deliveries are being made to about 2,540 streets, covering about 60% of the city. Where deliveries cannot be made either to a PO box or street address, NZ Post will hold the mail at an alternative location for pickup.
A number of box lobbies which are inaccessible are being relocated from Thursday, 3 March until further notice. Mail for lobbies at Armagh Street, Victoria Street, High Street and the Christchurch Box Lobby in Cashel Street is now available from Business Mails Counter, 145 Orchard Road, from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. Mail for the lobby at Sockburn is available from Sockburn Delivery Branch, 136 Main South Road, 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday to Friday.
From Friday, 4 March, mail for the lobby at Sydenham will be available from the Beckenham Delivery Branch, 148 Colombo Street (front door) from 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday to Friday, and mail for the lobby at Shirley will be available from Bishopdale PostShop, 31 Bishopdale Court (back door entrance behind New World supermarket) from 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Anyone picking up mail from these temporary collection point must provide the full box number (including prefix), name and photo ID. Business customerse must also provide the trading name and company ID.
DX Mail Christchurch branch is operating with a skeleton staff however all phones and fax are diverted to the Auckland office until further notice.
DX box to box service deliveries continue where access is possible and safe. Cordons in the central city and business closures have limited ability to deliver, as has the lack of fuel in Christchurch. DX Exchange location status continues to be accessed and a number are open where circumstances allow. Any mailouts should be taken directly to DX Mail Christchurch at Ivan Crescent, Christchurch Airport.
Freightways road and air linehaul services resumed their Christchurch based operations on 1 March. Where possible all Christchurch mail movements connected with the Freightways linehaul network but there may some delays. Service delays within the Christchurch metropolitan area are to be expected. Deliveries to South Island destinations outside Christchurch are rapidly returning to normal.
