Urgent Privacy Code aims to help emergency services use of personal information

Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff has signed into effect an urgent Christchurch Earthquake (Information Sharing) Code 2011. This is designed to give additional certainty to front line and immediate support staff dealing with the impacts of the emergency. Ms Shroff says the code will help emergency services and others to gather, use and disclose personal information in their work in responding to the emergency. The code came into effect at 5:00pm on 24 February and will remain in force for 3 months. (Source: Communication from Privacy Commissioner to New Zealand Law Society).
