District Law Societies
District law societies cease to be statutory bodies on 1 February 2009. Until then, they will handle transitional issues on behalf of the New Zealand Law Society by agreement, and will complete outstanding matters under the Law Practitioners Act 1982.
Every person who is a member of a district law society now (ie, all current lawyers) continues, by virtue of s386, to be a member of the New Zealand Law Society and no membership subscription will be payable until 30 June 2009.
