Request for Certificate of Standing

Please note: If you require a Legal Aid Provider Certificate of Standing instead, please complete the online application form.

The charge for a Certificate of Standing for a lawyer holding a current practising certificate as issued by the New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) is NZ$50 plus GST. The charge for a person not holding a current NZLS issued practising certificate is NZ$75 plus GST. GST is not payable for those applying outside New Zealand.

The Certificate may take 3-4 weeks to process, therefore the postal address given should be your own rather than a forwarding address. Therefore, please factor in this time when making your application.

Payment for the Certificate is to be made at the time of applying. Note - if you pay by bank transfer you must include your name and the reference "COS" on the bank detail.
