Canterbury Library update

Library staff are still unable to return to the Law Library in the Durham Street Courts building in Christchurch.

While engineers’ reports have recently declared the ‘tower’ in the Courts building safe for Ministry of Justice staff to re-enter, unfortunately the Law Library which adjoins the tower, requires ground stabilisation and structural strengthening before re-entry work can begin.

The necessary repair work will start sometime in the New Year with no further timeframe available at this stage.

Library staff have had controlled access to retrieve items from the collection since the February earthquake, however this access may become more restricted as remedial work is carried out. Meanwhile Library staff will continue to provide all Library services from a temporary site at 8 Homersham Place, Burnside.

Core texts and loose-leaf services have been relocated to the temporary location and a computer is available for practitioners to access Library electronic resources.

The computer is in demand so booking is recommended. The Library catalogue shows if a text is held at Homersham Place.
