The New Zealand Law Society is the regulatory body for all lawyers. Under the LCA, however, membership of the society is voluntary.
No additional membership fee is being charged for the period to 30 June 2010, and all members continue to receive full benefits for the services being provided by branches and the New Zealand Law Society.
Last year the NZLS Council appointed a committee to look at the delivery of membership services, once district law societies become branches of the NZLS. That committee, chaired by Chris Darlow, has now completed its report. Management consultants Arrus Knoble have also completed a report on the Society's representative services.
