Law Society invited to make submissions on Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Bill

The New Zealand Law Society has been invited by the Minister for Earthquake Recovery to make urgent submissions on the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Bill, which is being introduced to Parliament under urgency.

The Bill repeals the Canterbury Earthquake Response and Recovery Act 2010 and establishes controls and measures to manage earthquake recovery.

The Law Society has been advised that after its introduction to Parliament on 12 April, the Bill will be referred to select committee for urgent hearing within the next day or so.

The Society’s submission is being prepared at short notice by members of its Law Reform Committee. The committee members who are participating have backgrounds and experience in the fields of commercial and business law, property law, constitutional law and the rule of law. A number are based in Christchurch and have first-hand experience of the conditions.
