Legal aid selection committee notification

The Legal Services Agency has advised that it will be seeking nominations from the New Zealand Law Society for members of Selection Committees established under the new Legal Services Act.

The Act will commence on 1 July 2011, and provides for selection committees to be established to assist in making recommendations to the Secretary for Justice regarding legal aid providers.

The Law Society advises that it does not have sufficient information from the Legal Services Agency at present to call for applications. However, any New Zealand lawyers who wish to express an interest and to be notified when further information and an application form is available, are invited to email gwynn.owen@lawsociety.org.nz.
