The New Zealand Law Society’s Library Service has now established desktop access for New Zealand lawyers to a number of large information databases.
The Law Society has secured a subscription to the “EPIC” service, which consists of databases from the international providers Gale and Ebsco.
New Zealand lawyers are now able to access EPIC through my.lawsociety, meaning lawyers around the country may tap into a comprehensive collection of legal, business and other information.
The agreement with the database providers requires access to be controlled, and the Law Society’s my.lawsociety site may be accessed only by lawyers holding a current practising certificate.
Over 25 individual databases are available, including “LegalTrac”, which indexes over 1,400 legal journal titles, the “Criminal Justice Collection”, the “Environmental Studies and Policy Collection” and “Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre” which combines magazines, newspapers, newswires and reference books to create a very large collection of full text content.
