The New Zealand Law Society is increasing the fee for certificates of standing on 1 November 2011, with one exception. Certificates of standing for legal aid providers reapplying for listing will still cost the current rate of $30 plus GST.
A two-tier cost structure has been introduced. From 1 November 2011, the charge for a certificate of standing for a lawyer holding a current practising certificate will be $50 plus GST. The charge for a person not holding a current practising certificate will be $75 plus GST.
The fees have been increased to cover the administrative costs of providing the certificates.
The reason the charge has not increased for a certificate of standing for legal aid providers reapplying for listing is because these applications are of a limited nature and require less administrative time to process.
