LawTalk is the official magazine of the New Zealand Law Society. It provides a wide range of news and information on the New Zealand legal profession, the legal system and changes in the law.
All articles in LawTalk aim to be relevant to anyone who is practising law in New Zealand. Topics covered regularly include developments in specialist areas of legal practice, information on regulation of the profession, audit and trust accounting requirements, practice management, developments in technology of relevance to lawyers, continuing legal education, Law Society law reform activities and submissions, legal information, profiles on members of the profession, and important court, case law and legislative developments.
Regular features included in each issue of LawTalk are “On the Move” (announcements of legal profession appointments, promotions or retirements), “People” (judicial appointments, lawyers appointed to government and other bodies, and honours awarded to lawyers) and “NZLS CLE Ltd” (a calendar with information on seminars, intensives, workshops, conference and webinars being held by NZLS CLE Ltd).
LawTalk is also used for publication of decisions of Lawyers Standards Committees, where a committee has directed publication.
LawTalk is published fortnightly, 23 times a year.
Anyone holding a current legal practising certificate who is resident in New Zealand is automatically sent LawTalk free of charge. Associate Members of the New Zealand Law Society also receive LawTalk as part of their associate membership, as well as members of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives.
Subscription rates for LawTalk have been set for the period from 1 July to 31 December 2011. These are: New Zealand - $69 (GST and postage included); Pacific - $96 (postage included); Rest of World - $108 (postage included).
LawTalk has a circulation of 12,100 copies. As well as delivery to practising New Zealand lawyers, the magazine is also read by members of the judiciary, legal executives, associate Law Society members and other individuals and groups associated with the New Zealand legal profession.
LawTalk carries advertising. As well as display advertising, the magazine has a classified section which carries advertisements on matters such as will inquiries, situations vacant, premises to let, and other legal services.
The New Zealand Law Society uses LawTalk to advertise the names of candidates for admission to the legal profession who are seeking certificates of character and applicants for approval to practise on own account.
