Commerce Commission Member or Associate Member - Auckland or Wellington

On behalf of the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is seeking candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as a member or an associate member of the Commerce Commission.

The Ministry is particularly looking for a candidate who is an experienced barrister or solicitor, preferably with expertise in competition or commercial law. Other candidates with analytical skills and experience in commerce, economics, law, public administration or consumer affairs will also be considered.  

The Commerce Commission is an independent Crown entity responsible for competition, consumer protection and economic regulation. The Commission has statutory functions under the Commerce Act 1986, Fair Trading Act 1986, Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003, Telecommunications Act 2001 and Dairy Industry Restructuring Act 2001.

The position would require the successful candidate to be available for meetings at the Commerce Commission’s offices in Wellington or Auckland as required. If persons reside outside of Wellington or Auckland, they must be willing to travel for Commission business as required.
