Legal Services Manager - Hamilton

We are looking for an experienced legal professional to join our Governance Team to manage our legal services relationships and to provide advice to key internal customers.
As our Legal Services Manager, you will be key in enabling Hamilton City Council to obtain the best and most cost-effective legal resources as needed. You’ll achieve this through providing proficient legal advice or instructing appropriate external providers, assessing and highlighting legal risks to relevant management or governance bodies, and optimising resources to meet our organisation’s legal needs.
To be successful in this role, in addition to your legal qualifications and experience, you’ll have proven experience in providing in-house legal counsel preferably in a large public organisation, or in a law firm advising public sector clients (including territorial authorities). You’ll have the ability to provide robust advice, whilst remaining pragmatic to the needs of the business and effectively balancing risk. The successful candidate will also hold a current practicing certificate from the NZ Law Society or be able to obtain one.
Along with your experience, you’ll demonstrate positive influencing skills and be confident to challenge the status quo with clients and providers as appropriate. You will have an eye for detail and bring with you in-depth working experience within the legal services industry. Your proven business and political acumen will enable you to achieve success as a trusted partner within our organisation.

The recruiting range for this role starts at $90,000 per annum and will be negotiated with the successful candidate in accordance with skills, knowledge and experience.
