Solicitor - Enforcement - Auckland

We are seeking a Solicitor with 3 - 6 years PQE to join our Enforcement team, which sits with the Regulatory Litigation team.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

In this role, you will provide professionally sound and technically robust legal advice and services to Auckland Council particularly in relation to the Council's regulatory enforcement responsibilities under the Resource Management Act 1991, Local Government Act 2002, Building Act 2004 and other regulatory legislation. You will manage prosecutions on behalf of the Council in relation to a variety of regulatory legislation. There will also be opportunities to appear in the Environment Court and appellate courts in relation to civil enforcement proceedings and appeals.

You will observe obligations under the Criminal Procedure Act 2011 and the Solicitor General’s Prosecution Guidelines and ensure Council is a model enforcement litigant. You will be an energetic and proactive member of high performing litigation/dispute resolution professionals who are dedicated to delivering high quality legal services across the Council family.

You will also engage and build relationships with internal client groups to provide advice and support in the general area of criminal and regulatory litigation (including all court, tribunal, and mediation matters, outside of those arising from the exercise of Council's regulatory functions) and manage relationships with external legal providers.

He kōrero mōu: About you

A strong background in enforcement and prosecutions is preferred. You will have the ability to deliver technically robust legal advice, deploy great stakeholder management skills, have excellent advocacy and case management skills to be able to conduct cases in-house from start to finish where appropriate, and the ability to manage external providers. Specialist knowledge of the Resource Management Act and Building Act is an advantage.
