New Director of Human Rights Proceedings named

Auckland barrister Robert Kee has been appointed Director of Human Rights Proceedings.

His appointment is effective from 15 October 2012 and follows the expiration of the term of the incumbent Director, Robert Hesketh.

Announcing the appointment, Justice Minister Judith Collins says Mr Kee is an experienced criminal lawyer.

"I have every confidence that his strong litigation skills and judgement will ensure that he successfully leads the Office of Human Rights Proceedings for the next five years."

Ms Collins says she would like to thank Robert Hesketh for leading the Office for the last two terms, since 2002.

The Office of Human Rights Proceedings is an independent body within the Human Rights Commission.

Mr Kee graduated with an LLB(Hons) from the University of Auckland in 1986.
