Swearing-in of new Chief Justice, Wellington, 14 March

The swearing-in ceremony of the 13th Chief Justice of New Zealand, Helen Winkelmann, will take place on Thursday 14 March at 11am, at the Supreme Court, 85 Lambton Quay, Wellington.

Although the sitting will be held at the Supreme Court there will be insufficient space to sit everybody in the actual courtroom.  The ceremony will be live-streamed and seating will be available on both sides of the front of the foyer of the court.  In addition, the Old High Court, (Stout Street entrance) will also live-stream the ceremony and is available to members of the New Zealand Law Society.

The ceremony will be followed by refreshments in the atrium of the Supreme Court which is accessed through the main door of 85 Lambton Quay.

Justice Winkelmann was appointed a High Court Judge in 2004 and Chief High Court Judge in 2009. In 2015 she was appointed a Judge of the Court of Appeal.
