Health and wellbeing

Lifestyle choices have a serious impact on physical and mental health. What you eat, how much you exercise, and how you balance your work and home life all impact on how you feel, both physically and mentally. Getting the right balance makes a massive difference to your productivity, energy levels and general wellbeing.

Eat well

We all know the benefits of a good balanced diet for our general health, including reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. However, you can also improve your energy levels and reduce stress levels just by eating the right foods. For more information on healthy eating consult the Healthy Food Guide or to bust a few food myths download Consumers’ The Truth about Food booklet.

Stay active

Regular physical activity is known to reduce stress, increase energy and improve wellbeing. Go for a walk, a bike ride or a swim, dance, join a gym or play sport. It’s up to you. Find something that you really enjoy doing, stick with it and feel better. For some ideas and more information, visit the Ministry of Health website.

Take time out to do the things that you enjoy and spend more time with friends and family. Work to live, don’t live to work. Enjoy a good book, a meal, a movie or a show, get a hobby, take a holiday and ensure you get enough sleep. For information on maintaining a good work/life balance, including information on the Employment Relations (Flexible Working Arrangements) Amendment Act 2007 and parental leave entitlements, check out the Department of Labour website.
