Expressions of interest

We are seeking candidates to join a three-member Independent Review Panel who will engage widely and make recommendations on what changes are needed for modern and well-functioning regulation and representation of the legal profession in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We anticipate the Review will begin in February 2022. The Panel will operate part-time to complete the Review over nine to 12 months. It will be supported by a Secretariat.

We welcome your interest if you have:

  • support for the purpose of the Review, with an appreciation of the role and value of a modern and well-functioning legal profession to the wellbeing of all New Zealanders
  • thought leadership and expertise in one or more of the areas of examination for the Review
  • excellent strategic, analytic and interpersonal skills
  • a commitment to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and an understanding of the interests and needs of contemporary diverse and multi-cultural Aotearoa New Zealand.

In addition, we are seeking candidates who can bring experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • undertaking independent reviews in complex stakeholder environments
  • consumer protection
  • the professional and commercial rigours of legal practice
  • stakeholder engagement and communications with diverse audiences
  • culture and change management  
  • finance and risk management.
