Lawyer Members for Lawyers Standards Committees, Auckland

New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui o Aotearoa

Are you ready for a new challenge? Do you want to work with a fun and dedicated group of lawyers and lay people? Would you like to make a difference and help uphold standards in your profession?

Expressions of interest are sought for lawyer members on Lawyers Standards Committees based in Auckland. Positions are for an initial term of two years.

To be eligible for appointment as a lawyer member on a Standards Committee you must have practised as a lawyer for a period or periods aggregating not less than five years. You need to be of good character and have the skill, experience and judgment needed to investigate and consider complaints. You won’t do this on your own, you will work collaboratively with others. Meetings are monthly and occur either in-person (lunch is provided) or remotely. There is reading to do beforehand.

The Standards Committees concerned are particularly seeking expressions of interest from lawyers with experience in any of the following areas:

  • Civil litigation

  • Trusts and estates
  • Immigration

The Law Society is committed to the principles of diversity and inclusion. We really need to ensure that Lawyers Standards Committees represent the society that the legal profession serves, so we need and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds.
