Information released on Wellington lawyers taking on legal aid work

Information released by Justice Minister Judith Collins shows a fall of 22.7% from 2010 to 2011 in the number of lawyers who have taken on legal aid work in the Wellington region.

The figures also show that in 2011 the number of lawyers taking on legal aid work in the Wellington region was 7.5% below the number for 2006

The information was provided in response to a parliamentary question for written answer from Labour justice spokesperson Charles Chauvel, who asked "how many lawyers have taken on legal aid work in the Wellington region in the year 2011 and how does this compare to the previous 5 years?"

Ms Collins' reply included a table which she said showed how many lawyers had taken on legal aid work in the Wellington region in the year 2011 and the previous five years.
