Inaugural Chief Victims Adviser appointed

12 November 2015

Justice Minister Amy Adams says Kim McGregor QSO has been appointed to the role of Chief Victims Advisor to Government.

The Chief Victims Advisor will be responsible for providing the Government with independent advice on legislative, policy and other issues relating to victims of crime.

Ms Adams says Dr McGregor has nearly 30 years' experience working first-hand with victims of sexual and family violence and is the ideal candidate for the newly-created position.

Previously, Dr McGregor was the Executive Director of Rape Prevention Education, Whakatu Mauri for more than ten years. She was a founding and executive member of Te Ohaakii a Hine - National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together (TOAHNEST), Chair of the Tauiwi Caucus and a member of the Task Force for Action on Sexual Violence.

She is the author of the first set of ACC national guidelines for therapists working with child sexual abuse and two self-help books for adult survivors of child sexual abuse.

In 2014, Dr McGregor received The Queen's Service Order for services to the prevention of sexual violence.
