Overseas investment fee increases from 4 July
Regulations increasing the fees and charges payable to the Overseas Investment Office will come into effect on 4 July 2016.
The Overseas Investment Amendment Regulations 2016 were made by Order in Council on 30 May 2016.
The old fees and charges will continue to apply to applications and requests made before 4 July, although Schedule 1AA contains provision for the new fees and charges to apply to monitoring of compliance with the conditions of an exemption.
The size of the fee increases is variable. An application for a consent for a transaction relating to overseas investment in significant business assets will cost $32,000 after 4 July - up from $12,900 at present. Applications for variation of consent or conditions of consent rise from $10,900 to $13,000, while applications for exemptions under regulation 37 rise from $11,700 to $25,500.
