NZ-based Nepalese lawyer seeks aid from legal community
Auckland lawyer Tschering Lama is asking New Zealand's legal community for donations to assist Nepal after the massive earthquake which struck the country on 25 April.
The New Zealand Law Society has helped Mr Lama with contacting New Zealand lawyers to provide information about the appeals which have been set up by the Christchurch-based Nepalese Friendship Society Inc and the Student Volunteer Army.
Mr Lama, who has many family members affected by the earthquake, says information about the condition of his family members is limited.
"What I do know is that because of the aftershocks everybody is trying to stay outside. They're trying to get by with whatever they can at the moment.
"I do feel helpless not being there right now, but we're all trying to do the best we can through even the smallest contributions."
New Zealand has always been a great contributor and supporter of Nepal, thanks to the work of Sir Edmund Hillary, he says.
All money donated will be accounted for and distributed to a community that is most in need and in a completely transparent way, he says.
Mr Lama arrived in New Zealand in 2002. He studied law at the University of Canterbury and now works in commercial and insurance law at Auckland law firm Markit Law.
His message to lawyers and law firms, which the Law Society has emailed to New Zealand lawyers was as follows:
"Dear New Zealand Law Society members
