Anthony (Tony) Gordon Keesing, 1930 - 1986

Former Wellington District Law Society Council member Tony Keesing, 55, died in Wellington Hospital last month.

Born in Wellington he went to Victoria University before moving to Auckland University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law.

From Auckland he moved south to Hamilton and Invercargill and in the late 1950s returned to Wellington to join the Lower Hutt branch of Bell Gully & Co. That was later renamed Keesing McLeod & Co.

In that practice he became senior litigation partner specialising in personal injury and insurance claims.

At that time he also became interested in the affairs of the district law society and was elected a member of the Council.

While still with Keesing McLeod & Co he undertook a sabbatical to study administrative law at the London School of Economics.

He retired from partnership in 1980 to join the Crown Law Office as Crown Counsel specialising in administrative law, a position he held at his death.

This was first published on page 6 of the March 1986 issue of Council Brief, the monthly newsletter of the Wellington District Law Society.
