Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully has released a report into diplomatic immunity issues surrounding Malaysian Defence attache Mohammad Rizalman.

The Ministerial Inquiry was prepared by John Whitehead after Mr McCully announced an inquiry would be held into the circumstances on 11 July 2014. It was presented to the Minister on 28 November 2014.

The report makes 21 recommendations to ensure that similar events will not happen again.

Mr McCully says all recommendations have now been fully implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

"We have waited until after Mr Rizalman's sentencing to release the Whitehead Report and associated documentation on advice from Crown Law," he says.

"We have released the report as soon as possible and I am pleased it is now available to the public."
