Cash and assets worth $382 million have been restrained since 1 December 2009 under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009, says Police Minister Judith Collins.

The Act allows Police to seize assets believed to be the proceeds of crime with or without a criminal conviction and the funds recovered are used to fund law enforcement initiatives.

Ms Collins says of the $382 million in assets restrained, $85 million has been forfeited under the Act.

"By value, 96% of asset forfeitures and 86% of asset restraints to date have been linked to drugs and/or organised crime," she says.
