Christchurch City Council advises of change in rates calculation

Christchurch City Council advises that the way it calculates rates changed on 1 July 2018.

This followed the expiration of the Christchurch Earthquate (Rating) Order 2012 which allowed it to adjust rates monthly for subdivision, amalgamations, new builds or demolitions.

The Council says the expiration of the order has changed the way some property settlements are handled in terms of paying the rates.

It says rates are now being calculated the "normal" way. Any change to a property's value as a result of subdivision, amalgamations, new build or demolitions will not impact rates until the following 1 July. Rates can now be settled to 30 June.
