The Environment select committee has released a report on the Litter (Increased Infringement Fee) Amendment Bill and recommends that it be passed with amendments.

The Member's bill was introduced by National MP Scott Simpson. It seeks to amend the Litter Act 1979 to increase the maximum fine for infringements from $400 to $1,000.

The committee recommends a number of minor amendments, including removal of a clause which states the purpose of the bill. The committee says amendment bills should not have purpose clauses.
