Parliament has given a third reading to the Crown Minerals Amendment Bill. The amendments will come into force on the day after the date of Royal assent.

The bill was introduced on 5 April 2018. Its objective was to amend the Crown Minerals Act 1991  to maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of the permitting regime established by that Act.

The bill's objectives were to address regulatory duplication, gaps, errors, and inconsistencies within the Act, and to clarify and update statutory provisions. This would ensure an appropriate permitting regime for the future.
