The Department of Internal Affairs has announced it will host a series of training events around New Zealand to help businesses understand what's required of them to complete a Risk Assessment and to document their AML/CFT programme.

It says the interactive sessions are designed to provide information on key factors businesses will need to consider, and to answer any questions about what they need to do.

Time will also be spent demonstrating how to find resources on the department's website, and senior regulators will be present to answer any specific questions after the training has been completed.

The workshops are 2.5 hours long and are being held at 16 locations between 11 June and 3 July. Registration is now open and can be completed online.

The department says after the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • identify money laundering and terrorism financing risks and spot red flags for their business,
  • undertake a written risk assessment and implement an AML/CFT programme,
  • find DIA resources and tools on its website, and know where to get further support.
