Earlier this week the President and Chief Executive of the New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa met with the Minister of Justice, Kris Faafoi to discuss a range of subjects on behalf of the legal profession.

“It was great to meet with the new Minister in Wellington,” says President, Tiana Epati.

“We discussed my key priorities as President including improving diversity and inclusion in the profession, securing system-level changes to the co-regulatory system to better deal with unacceptable behaviour and improving access to justice for consumers.”

Also discussed were proposed changes to the lawyers’ conduct and professional development rules to better deal with unacceptable conduct within the profession and the independent review of the statutory framework for legal services, including the structure and functions of the Law Society.

“It was a very productive meeting, and we’re looking forward to continuing to engage with the Minister as we look to the future,” adds Tiana.
