The New Zealand Law Foundation is reminding possible candidates that the deadlines for applications for four of its scholarships and awards are looming within the next two months.

Applications for the Shadow Report Award close on 1 August 2018. The award, which is valued at $10,000, is to support a person or body in the preparation of shadow reports for, and/or attendance at, the presentation of the periodic reports before, United Nations human rights monitoring bodies acting under human rights instruments that they monitor.

New Zealand Law Foundation Doctoral Scholarship applications close on 31 August 2018. Awarded twice a year, the scholarship is awarded to a doctoral candidate who will carry out research in a defined area of the law which is for the benefit of New Zealand and its legal system. Each scholarship is tenable at a law school in a New Zealand university and will be provided as a top up to the award of a New Zealand University PhD scholarship. The top up is $10,000 each year for up to three years.

Applications for the New Zealand Law Foundation International Research Fellowship close on 1 September 2018. New Zealand's biggest annual legal research award and valued at up to $125,000 annually, the Fellowship enables recipients of high ability to pursue a defined course of research either in New Zealand or overseas with the purpose of making a significant contribution to an area of law in New Zealand.

The Cleary Memorial Prize commemorates former Court of Appeal Judge and New Zealand Law Society President Sir Timothy Cleary. It has a value ot $5,000 and is awarded to the person who shows the most promise of service to and through the profession as demonstrated by a number of attributes. Applications are open to any barrister and/or solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Applicants are eligible for consideration for the prize if they apply within a three year period from the date of their admission to the bar. Applications close on 30 September 2018.
