At 1 July 2019, $142,089,614 in legal aid debt was outstanding, Justice Minister Andrew Little says.

Mr Little provided the information in response to a parliamentary written question from National MP Mark Mitchell.

In response to another question Mr Little said approximately 35% of legal aid recipients were set a repayment requirement as a condition of their grant.

This is based upon the number of recipients who were granted legal aid over the past five years, and the number of these who have a repayment requirement," he said.
