The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) says it has started an in-depth policy and operational review to better understand temporary migrant worker exploitation in New Zealand, and to identify impactful and enduring solutions.

MBIE says that as part of the review it is commissioning wide-ranging research on temporary migrant worker exploitation and the gaps and opportunities to address this.

MBIE is also establishing a consultation group representing migrants, business, union and international students.

It asks anyone who believes they are being exploited in the workplace to contact Immigration New Zealand on 0508 558 855 or the Labour Inspectorate on 0800 20 90 20, where their concerns will be handled in a safe environment.
