Nearly $600m owed in court fines

The Minister of Justice has revealed that $579.9 million was owed to the Ministry of Justice in unpaid infringement fines and court-imposed fines as at 1 May 2020.

Andrew Little was responding to a written question lodged by the National Party’s spokesperson on Justice, Mark Mitchell.

In his reply, Mr Little issued a table showing that of the total amount due, $269 million was due to a police infringement and $183.6 million was owed from a court-imposed fine.
