Attorney-General David Parker has announced an appointment round for Queen’s Counsel will take place in 2018.

Appointments of Queen’s Counsel are made by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Attorney-General and with the concurrence of the Chief Justice.

Mr Parker says applications for appointment as Queen's Counsel will open on 1 August 2018. Applications must be made on the approved application form which should be sent to the Solicitor-General no later than 31 August 2018.

It is expected that appointments will be made in November 2018.

An application form and guidelines for applicants for the 2018 round are available on the Crown Law website.

The regulations set a fee of $500 for applicants, reflecting the costs of the appointment process.

The Solicitor-General will consult with the New Zealand Law Society and the New Zealand Bar Association regarding the candidates.
