AWS Legal announces new designations

Two associates have moved into senior associate roles.

Eugene Roud

Eugene Roud graduated from the University of Auckland in 2014 with a Master of Laws Degree with First Class Honours in Corporate and Commercial Law and joined the Alexandra office of AWS Legal in the winter of the same year. Eugene has a particular interest in property and commercial law, with significant experience in assisting clients with complex subdivisions, property and business acquisitions, leases, commercial documentation, financing, and agribusiness transactions.

Jenny Denley

Jenny Denley is an experienced property and commercial solicitor. Joining AWS Legal in 2017, Jenny works in the rural team with Dave Gibson at our Alexandra office. This includes providing assistance in relation to rural transactions, residential and commercial transactions and asset protection, including trusts, wills and estate planning.

One solicitor has moved to associate

Rebecca Smith

Rebecca Smith based at the Cromwell office has now moved to an associate position. Rebecca joined AWS Legal in January 2020. She has experience with a wide range of residential and commercial property matters, including subdivision work, helping first home buyers or other clients buy or sell property, commercial leasing and business sales and purchases. Rebecca also assists with employment, relationship property and asset protection matters.

Six solicitors have now moved to Senior Solicitor roles

Jessica Hayes joined AWS Legal as a summer clerk and returned to AWS Legal in 2019 after completing a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics at the University of Otago. Working in the Employment Team, Jessica can assist with all employment matters including employment agreements, disciplinary matters, dispute resolution, restructuring and redundancies, and drafting policies such as health & safety and drug and alcohol policies.

Katie Burgess graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English in 2015, and with a Bachelor of Laws in 2018. Katie has been working in the Invercargill office as a part of the Private Client Estates team since October 2018. Katie’s area of expertise includes estate administration, elder law, trust administration and residential conveyancing.

Connor Handley started with AWS Legal in the Invercargill Office in 2019. He graduated from the University of Waikato in 2018 with a Bachelor of Laws and a second major in Political Science. Connor is a member of the Property and Projects Team. He has experience in residential and commercial conveyancing, first home buyers, leasing, subdivisions, insolvency law and general company law advice.

Cushla Harnett graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts. She has been at AWS Legal since 2018, and is a member of our Business team They assist clients with a wide range of commercial matters including sale and purchase of businesses, company restructures and administration, applying for trade marks, reviewing and drafting commercial contracts and drafting terms of trade. Cushla also has experience in residential and commercial property transactions.

Rachel Buckley graduated from Otago University in 2017 with a double degree in Law and Arts, majoring in politics. Since July 2018 she has been part of the AWS Legal team in the Queenstown office and works on a variety of matters including residential and commercial property transactions, first home buyers, commercial leasing, residential subdivisions and the sale and purchase of businesses.

Robbie McKenzie started with AWS Legal in the Invercargill Office in 2018. Studying at the University of Otago, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Applied Science (majoring in Environmental Management) in 2017. Robbie is a member of our Rural Law Team. He has experience in rural conveyancing, subdivisions, first home buyers, leasing and refinancing as well as wills and enduring powers of attorney.
