Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) Chief Executive Peter Mersi says the review of the Overseas Investment Office's process for assessing good character will now be conducted by Wellington barrister Peter McKenzie QC.

He says Terence Stapleton QC is unfortunately no longer available to carry out the review.

The report, a response to issues that have emerged over the 2013 Ceol & Muir application to purchase sensitive land in Taranaki, is expected to be completed by 15 June 2016.

Mr McKenzie has LLM degrees from Victoria University of Wellington and London School of Economics and a BD from Melbourne College of Divinity and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1962. He is a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2000. From 1990 to 1995 he was chairman of the Securities Commission.
