Christchurch commercial lawyer Sue McCormack is one of four people who have been reappointed to the new University of Canterbury Council by Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce.

Mr Joyce says Education Act changes in February 2015 have resulted in smaller, more skills-focused councils and Canterbury is the first university to change its constitution to reflect the new situation.

Ms McCormack is the elected Pro Chancellor of the University of Canterbury and is a partner of Christchurch firm Mortlock McCormack Law.

She has held several directorships, including Lyttelton Port Company from 1998 to 2007 and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2008. She is currently a board member of Public Trust and is also a member of the New Zealand Law Society and the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
