Sale of Goods in New Zealand by Nicholas Wood and published by Thomson Reuters NZ Ltd has won the JF Northey Memorial Book Award for the best legal book published in 2018.

The  award, which carries a prize of $2,000, was established by the Legal Research Foundation for the best legal book published by a New Zealand-based author(s).

Three other prizes have been awarded by the Legal Research Foundation.

The Sir Ian Barker Published Article Award is given for the best article, essay or discrete book chapter published by a New Zealand-based author.  It carries a prize of $1,500.

The winner for 2018 was Associate Professor Hanna Wilberg for her article Interpretive Presumptions Assessed against Legislators’ Understanding, Chapter 9, The Unity of Public Law? Doctrinal, Theoretical and Comparative Perspectives, (Hart Publishing).

The Unpublished Undergraduate Student Paper Award is made for an undergraduate student paper between a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of 18,000 words.  The paper must have been written for course credit at a New Zealand university. The award carries a prize of $1,000.

The winning paper for 2018 was "Litigation Funding – Access to Justice or Egregious Exploitation?," by Margaret Wisstt, (Faculty of Law, University of Canterbury).

The Unpublished Postgraduate Student Paper Award is made for unpublished postgraduate student papers between a minimum of 8,000 and a maximum of 18,000 words. The award carries a prize of $1,000.

The winning paper in 2018 was “Critical assessment of REDD+ implementation in the context of the rights of indigenous people”, by Devika A. Kumar (University of Auckland).
